For Redlynch Players, the first Monday of September is always one filled with a sense of promise, purpose and adventure. it’s the first meeting after the summer break is over and we gather together to begin rehearsing for our autumn production. This year was much the same – perhaps even more so as we welcomed several number members to the Players family! And so, we began in earnest – setting out the hall for both the stage and audience, discussing roles both on and off stage before starting to get to grips with Ron Perry’s vision for these wonderful monologues by Alan Bennett. Although originally written for TV, these pieces are easily adapted to the stage and, as always, Bennett’s writing involves gripping characters and intriguing stories with a twist. Our cast includes Gina Hodsman, Sarah Newman and Ali Silver who are following in the footsteps of acting giants Julie Walters, Dame Maggie Smith and Patricia Routledge. Not easy shoes to fill but we do love a challenge!
